Is one day enough for Galle

This blogpost focuses on one day as Galle is quite doable in one day only. However, if you are a family or like to take things slower, it might be better to stay two days also to catch up the city's vibe a bit better and take your time exploring.

How many nights in Galle Sri Lanka : If it's a nice hotel inside the Galle fort, then you can easily spend a full day popping in an out of old buildings, cafes and specialty shops. We stayed 2 nights. 1 wasn't enough, 2 was 2 many. I found Galle very hot and humd during the heat of the day and the little beach is dreck.

Safety at night:Safe

Galle is generally safe at night. like many tourist destinations, the majority of locals are welcoming and respectful towards visitors. However, there can be occasional incidents of petty crime, such as pickpocketing, especially in crowded areas.

The sea is generally safe for swimming during the January to March period and in parts outside of that time. Mirissa is midway between Galle than Tangalle and is the pretty lit- tle bay that I and many others fell in love with when it was a tiny lit- tle fishing village 15 years ago.

Does Galle have nice beaches

One of the most famous Galle beaches, Unawatuna Beach boasts of its pristine turquoise waters and golden sands that blend perfectly well with the serene surroundings.To the south, Hikkaduwa is generally for backpackers and party an- imals, whilst Balapitiya, Ahungama and Dodanduwa all have excel- lent hotels a quiet beach and easy access to Galle and beyond. The sea is generally safe for swimming during the January to March period and in parts outside of that time.Tuk Tuk or on foot is your best bet if you are traveling in Galle or close by. The Old Town of Galle and its fortifications are within walking distance from the central bus station, so it's better to walk rather than to take a tuk-tuk.

Much more to see than Kandy or Galle, IMO. A day trip to Kandy would be much more rewarding with mountains, terrain and local lifestyle and you could see Pinnawela Elephants, a tea factory Visit, The kandy Temple and the Botanical gardens all in one long day. Travel to kandy by car would take about 3 hours each way.

Is it better to stay in Galle or Bentota : depends. Galle is a town with no beach it self, Unawatuna is the close beach for Galle. Bentota more family oriented, is a beach town and season is X-mas to March, off season sea is rough. Bentota has out door restaurants in walking distance and Galle has few + many in Una i.e tuk tuk distance.

Is it OK to wear shorts in Sri Lanka : Sri Lanka is very warm. Sri Lanka will have you sweating, unless you're up visiting the tea plantations in the hills, so light, breathable clothing is essential. We recommend avoiding short shorts or anything too revealing in the cities and towns, though the tourist streets near the beaches are less conservative.
